Try This For Your Business: Journaling Prompts for The Law Of Giving

This post is part of a series of journaling prompts exploring Chopra's The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and how we can apply them to our own business and personal lives.

The ethos of these seven concepts has been so useful to me this year, and so I have developed a series of journaling prompts around them.

Each of the seven posts in this series will explore one of the spiritual laws further, and then offer writing prompts for you to reflect on your responses and consider how they could be beneficial for you and your wellbeing and lifestyle. This is the second one:

The Law of Giving

'The universe operates through dynamic exchange... in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep abundance circulating in our lives.'

This law is all about keeping things moving; giving and receiving plentifully to avoid stagnation. As someone interested in words and writing, I loved learning in this chapter that the word affluence comes from the root word 'affleure' which means 'to flow', and that 'currency' also comes from the Latin 'currere' which is also 'to run' or 'to flow'.

The original 'invention' of money came from the idea of keeping track of our giving and receiving to help each other, rather than everyone doing everything for themselves. It's about our ability to share and help each other. When I think of money in this way, it makes my spending and earning much more mindful. Each time I part with money I am giving a gift and also receiving one (even if it might not be material or tangible immediately.)

However, this law is not just about money. Chopra suggests giving something to whoever you meet, wherever you go. This could be a smile, a compliment or a silent good wish for them. It could also be a flower, or a material object. It's all about keeping generosity circulating.

Often people find themselves either giving too much to others at the expense of nourishing themselves, or becoming so self-protective that they forget to give at all. Bringing awareness to both our giving and receiving could help check that the two are in a healthy balance. In theory there will be a 'sweet spot' where everyone can give and receive and not become too depleted. We can't control other people's giving and receiving but we can stay mindful of our own and check-in regularly to redress the balance.

'This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life... Ages pass and still thou pourest, and still there is room to fill.' ~ Rabindranath Tagore, Gitanjali

Journaling Prompts for the Law of Giving:

Think about these in relation to your business, or to life as a whole. What comes up?

  • Draw a circle, arrows or spiral to illustrate the law of giving and receiving - and your own labels in a way that will remind you of the sense of flow and interconnectedness.

  • What are your thoughts about spending money?

  • Do you feel like gifts and money come easily to you?

  • How much do you give?

  • Are you open to receiving?

  • Write down five easy gifts that you can give more frequently.

Take some time on these and allow yourself to get curious. The next law to explore when you're ready is The Law Of Karma and the prompts are here. Enjoy writing your reflections, and if you have any questions, you can message me on Instagram or email hello@strengthinfeathers.com
